Ojulari backs NLNG growth, sustainability drive on Bonny Island visit

Port Harcourt — The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, has reaffirmed support for the Nigeria LNG Limited describing the company as “a beacon of governance, performance, transparency, and sustainability” in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Ojulari stated this during a visit to the NLNG plant in Bonny, Rivers State, where he pledged NNPCL’s commitment to NLNG’s long-term sustainability and growth.

He said the engagement provided an opportunity to “connect with the team, assess operational progress, identify opportunities to drive continuous improvement, enhance plant availability, and boost revenue generation for the nation.”

He further revealed that NNPCL was pursuing a dynamic Gas Master Plan and exploring hydrogen collaborations with NLNG “in preparation for a net-zero future.”

Welcoming the NNPCL boss, NLNG’s Managing Director and CEO, Philip Mshelbila, commended NNPCL’s role as a dependable shareholder, saying the company had been instrumental in securing the gas value chain and supporting NLNG through recent challenges.

“We urgently need deliberate investment in the gas sector to stabilise supply, de-risk critical infrastructure, and unlock upstream investments. These efforts will sustain growth momentum, deepen value delivery, and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global energy marketplace,” Mshelbila said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emeka Vitalis, underscored NLNG’s strategic importance as “a lever for energy transition and a pillar of economic stability.”

He stressed the critical role of Train 7 in expanding Nigeria’s export capacity and urged the company to ensure strong asset integrity and zero emissions across its operations.

During the visit, Ojulari and his delegation toured key operational sites, including the main plant complex and the Train 7 expansion project, which is expected to significantly boost NLNG’s production capacity.

Ojulari was accompanied by top NNPCL executives including Olalekan Ogunleye, Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy; Adesua Dozie, Company Secretary and General Counsel; and Salihu Jamari, Chief Gas Power Investment Officer.

They were received by Mshelbila alongside senior NLNG executives, including Nnamdi Anowi, General Manager, Production; Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development; Aka Nwokedi, General Counsel; Fatima Adanan, General Manager, Finance; and Ekeinde Ohiwerei, General Manager, Corporate Services.
