Port Harcourt — Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has entered into a partnership with the Nigerian Navy to strengthen maritime security in the Niger Delta, a move expected to safeguard critical oil and gas assets and sustain production output across the company’s operations.

The commitment was sealed during a high-level meeting at the Nigerian Navy headquarters in Abuja, where Renaissance executives met with Naval leadership to discuss security collaboration and energy stability.

“Our vision for Nigeria’s energy security is rooted in collaboration,” said Renaissance’s General Manager for Relations and Sustainable Development, Dr. Igo Weli.

“Working closely with the Navy ensures that our operations are protected and our growth trajectory remains stable.”

Weli, who was joined by Renaissance’s Chief Production Officer, Meshach Maichibi, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic growth through increased oil and gas revenue.

Security risks, particularly crude theft and sabotage, have long undermined production in the Niger Delta. Renaissance’s General Manager for Security, Toye Fatoki, said the evolving nature of threats requires stronger surveillance and coordination with naval forces.

“We are seeing increasingly sophisticated threats to subsea infrastructure and offshore assets,” Fatoki warned.

“A coordinated response with the Navy is essential, not only to deter criminal activity but to ensure the safe and stable operation of our facilities.”

Responding, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dewu, pledged the Navy’s commitment to the partnership.

He applauded Renaissance’s operational resilience and rapid production turnaround since assuming operatorship of assets formerly held by Shell.

“The Navy remains committed to supporting the oil and gas sector. Collaboration with operators like Renaissance is vital for achieving national energy objectives and sustaining maritime security,” Dewu said.

At the close of the meeting, both parties agreed to set up a joint framework for intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and rapid response strategies to protect vital oil and gas infrastructure.
