What’s the role?
The Data Scientist will join a vibrant Data Science team in the Data Science and ML Capability Center (CC) under the Information, Data and Analytics (IDA) team/IT Digital Engineering VPship. The Data Scientist will be responsible for development, deployment and support of data science solutions/products in an agile fashion on a range of business issues. They will also be accountable for adhering to Shell quality standards for producing digital solutions.
Key Characteristics:
- Create full-stack data science application/tools on a digital platform
- Accountable for delivery of data science products in a production scale environment
- Manage the product lifecycle especially relating to data science, development to support
- Transform proof of concepts into a larger deployable product in Shell. Rinse and repeat, cross-pollinate ideas across projects and assets
- Partner with P&T Research teams, convert Proof of Concepts into scalable data products
- Will adhere to the principles of delivering quality through the MCDS digital quality initiative by conducting regular health checks, audits, code reviews to ensure that clean and maintainable production-level code is being produced by project teams
- Will evaluate and benchmark all new asset related initiatives prior to developing solutions.
- Contributes to community building initiatives like CoE, CoP.
Professional Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in any of the following: Engineering, statistics, machine learning, or other relevant areas
- Minimum 3 years of experience in industry in a Data Science or related role
- Background and/or active experience in at least one of the subsurface disciplines, e.g. petrophysics, geology, reservoir engineering, geophysics, etc.
Expected Skills
- Experience in developing, deploying, supporting models in production
- Experience in developing end-to-end models using machine learning for predictive modelling in a business/industry environment, i.e. feature engineering, model creation and evaluation
- Ability to write clean, elegant and maintainable production-level code and experience in version control, testing, refactoring
- Expertise in at least one Data Science language such as Python (Pandas, Scikit Learn, etc.), Matlab and R
- Has firm grasp and demonstratable experience on the principles of the model development lifecycle and producing machine learning models that stand up to statistical rigor
- Has good knowledge and understanding of GIT, Azure, CI/CD pipelines
- Has demonstratable experience in developing solutions with NLP and OCR
- Has experience in at least one of the following:
- ML Ops
- Machine Learning and Statistics
- Optimization (e.g. linear programming, multi-objective optimization, meta-heuristics, etc.)
- Strong communication skills, especially explaining technical concepts to business people
- Extensive experience working in small, empowered, delivery focused, cross-functional and collaborating teams
- Experience of working in a virtual team and with virtual stakeholders
Nice to Have Skills
- Knowledgeable in at least one of the following topics: Computer Vision, Deep Learning, NLP and reinforcement learning
- Deep expertise with one of the big cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
