POSITION SUMMARY

The Drilling Supervisor is primarily responsible for managing daily activities at the rig site, leading the effective implementation of the well program, and to ensure operations are conducted in a safe manner.  The role is to ensure integrity of service contractor activities while drilling and serving as Person-In-Charge (PIC) during simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) and in the event of an emergency response.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides visible EHS leadership and promotes safe operations
  • Promotes adherence to Safe Work Practices (DROPS, Working at Heights, Land Transportation, Lifting and Hoisting, and Energy Isolation) including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) preparation and review.
  • Actively participates in safety meetings (pre job and pre tower). Promote a healthy safety culture by encouraging the Drilling Contractor takes ownership of pre-tour meeting. Drillers to lead the pre-tours with the DSVs and Rig Managers as support roles. Encourage vendors to lead meeting once per week.
  • Participates in Risk Assessments.
  • Promotes Stop Work Authority and monitors contractor Safe Work Practices
  • Attends and actively participates in all emergency drills.
  • Reports all incidents, accidents and near misses; promotes a culture of incident reporting and participates in investigations.
  • Ensures comprehensive handover practices between day shift and night shift crews as well as during crew change.
  • Conducts daily worksite inspections to ensure compliance with corporate, local and federal regulations.
  • Monitors service contractors and all third party contractors to ensure compliance with corporate, local and federal regulations.
  • Supports Environment, Health, Safety and Social Responsibility Management System implementation.
  • Participates in meetings and audits with Regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for Well Control preparations, including verification of BOP testing and documented barrier management.
  • Provides support for Hess and service contractor emergency response activities and assists in training and drills.
  • Participates in maintenance of the well site emergency response plan.
  • Ensures integrity of BOP re-certification.
  • Supervises drilling activities to ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and well plans are followed including pit management, directional planning, etc.
  • Does not directly supervise rig contractors crews, but prepares daily work plan and makes available at pre-tours. Gives direct instruction to Rig Manager for implementation of well plan. May give direct instruction to driller in absence of RM on floor.
  • Regularly communicates with Drilling Superintendent.
  • Assists with preparation of daily Plan of Action (POAs).
  • Monitor well status and maintain dual barriers.
  • Communicate operations forecasts and performance feedback to the Drilling Superintendent.
  • Monitors and reports daily cost in Wellview to ensure cost effective operations.
  • Conducts operations in compliance with Hess Standards.
  • Preparation of the daily reports in Wellview.
  • Utilizes risk assessments and lessons learned to promote safety and efficiency, and to reduce non-productive time (NPT).
  • Reviews contractor Bridging Documents and ensures they continue to be current and valid.
  • Contributes to contactor evaluations.
  • Ensures third party contractors are onboarded effectively and integrated with ongoing operations.
  • Conducts update meetings with service providers and other contractors.
  • Reviews and signs service provider timesheets and field tickets.

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong safety and operational performance focus
  • Able to build and supervise a functional team with good communication skills
  • Analytical thinker and results oriented, with the ability to apply appropriate solutions
  • Self starter with continuous improvement (Lean) mindset looking for cost and efficiency improvements

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Well Control Supervisor certificate
  • Safe Land Certification or OSHA 10
  • English language proficiency
  • Minimum of 10 years onshore well operations experience

Preferred

  • 4-year University degree
  • Cold weather operations experience
