Environmental Technician performs environmental compliance work under the direction of the Marathon Field Services Manager and the Asset Lead Environmental Technician. Environmental Technicians primary responsibilities include execution of the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program; which involves gas leak detection utilizing an Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) Infrared (IR) camera, repair work, and recordkeeping. Other primary responsibilities may include conducting Audio-Visual and Olfactory (AVO) surveys and Method 22 (M22) visual determinations of fugitive emissions.


 


Responsibilities:


  • Conducting OGI IR camera surveys (monthly, quarterly, etc.) for compliance with New Source Performance Standards (NSPS); recording OGI IR camera survey data in Click software as required by Marathon processes, and maintaining OGI IR equipment (OGI IR camera and accessories will be supplied by Marathon)
  • Performing minor repairs (e.g. thief hatch gasket replacements and cleanings) to address leaks discovered during OGI IR camera surveys
  • Conducting Tank Pressure Response OGI IR surveys as necessary within 24 hours of notification
  • Conducting annual SPCC inspections as needed including, measuring of berms and checks for location integrity. Working with operations personnel to implement necessary corrective actions.
  • Ability to complete basic operator training and conducting basic repairs on production equipment
  • Responding to various Advanced Methane Detection Technology detections such as fixed wing flyover utilizing gas mapping LiDAR and continuous monitoring camera technologies
  • Conducting other duties as directed by the Marathon Field Services Manager and/or Lead Environmental Technician


 


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED required (Associate or Bachelor degree preferred)
  • Prior upstream oil & gas experience (field operator or mechanic preferred)
  • Certified Optical Gas Imaging Thermographer required (can be obtained after date of hire)
  • Respiratory Protection Program required
  • Understanding of Health, Environment and Safety as it relates to the oil & gas industry
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Schedule – 5/2 (Monday – Friday)
