Job Description:

Our client, a well-established underground mining operation in Namibia, is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their technical services team. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing geotechnical support to mining operations through the analysis of geotechnical data, ground control management, mine design input, and rock engineering practices. The role will play a key part in ensuring the safety, stability, and efficiency of underground mining activities while supporting continuous improvement of geotechnical standards and practices across the operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Collate, analyse, and interpret data from exploration, production, and geotechnical drilling programmes.
  • Conduct routine quality control testing and evaluation of underground support systems.
  • Monitor excavation performance and provide recommendations to minimise dilution and geotechnical risk.
  • Provide geotechnical input into mine planning, mining layouts, sequencing, and support design in accordance with rock engineering principles.
  • Assist in the review and continuous improvement of Ground Control Management Plans (GCMP) and related geotechnical standards.
  • Oversee and monitor the stability of surface stockpiles, waste dumps, and other civil infrastructure.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, technical documentation, presentations, and recommendations for operational and management teams.
  • Provide technical coaching, training, and mentorship to Junior Engineers and technical personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with mining regulations, health and safety standards, and industry best practices across all geotechnical activities.

Qualification and Skill:

  • BSc Honours Degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strata Control Certificate is required.
  • Rock Engineering Certificate or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Registered Competent Person or eligibility for registration with a recognised professional body.
  • Minimum 5 years of geotechnical experience within underground mining operations.
  • Experience using geotechnical software including RocScience Suite (Dips, RS2, Unwedge), MAP3D, FLAC3D, IMS seismic monitoring software, or equivalent packages.
  • Proficiency in mining software such as AcQuire, MineSight, Deswik, and Vulcan-Maptek.
  • Valid driver’s licence
