Job Description:

Our client, a leading mining company developing a major Platinum Group Metals (PGM) operation in Southern Africa, is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Concentrator to lead the successful delivery of a large-scale concentrator plant project.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, management, and delivery of the Concentrator Plant, ensuring project objectives are achieved safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The role will oversee all phases of project execution, including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness while managing multidisciplinary project teams, EPCM partners, contractors, consultants, and key stakeholders.

Based primarily in Johannesburg, with extensive travel to the project site in Zimbabwe, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to play a key leadership role in a world-class mining development project.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of the Concentrator Project from detailed engineering through construction, commissioning, and operational handover.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies to achieve approved scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Provide leadership to multidisciplinary engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
  • Coordinate engineering activities, manage technical interfaces, and resolve complex multidisciplinary issues.
  • Oversee procurement of critical equipment and manage EPCM consultants, contractors, suppliers, and contract performance.
  • Direct construction planning and execution, ensuring compliance with project specifications, standards, and productivity targets.
  • Lead commissioning activities, mechanical completion, system handovers, and operational readiness programs.
  • Monitor project controls including cost, schedule, progress, forecasting, reporting, and change management processes.
  • Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including executive management and operational teams.
  • Facilitate project review meetings, decision-making forums, and cross-functional coordination activities.
  • Champion a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with statutory, company, and project requirements.
  • Promote quality management and continuous improvement throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and review key project deliverables including schedules, progress reports, forecasts, risk registers, commissioning plans, and executive reporting documentation.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Process, Electrical, Chemical, or Mining Engineering.
  • Project Management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) highly advantageous.
  • Professional registration with ECSA or an equivalent professional body advantageous.
  • Valid passport with ability to travel internationally.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in mining project environments.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in senior project management roles.
  • Proven experience delivering large concentrator or mineral processing plant projects.
  • Extensive EPCM project delivery experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong construction, commissioning, and operational readiness experience.
  • Experience managing capital projects exceeding US$100 million advantageous.
  • Platinum Group Metals (PGM) processing experience highly advantageous.
  • Experience working in Africa and remote site environments advantageous.
