Job Description:

Our client, a leading mining contractor operating in West Africa, is seeking an experienced Project Mining Engineer to provide engineering, planning, and operational support for underground mining activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and commercially successful delivery of mining operations through effective planning, technical coordination, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain weekly and monthly mine plans and operational schedules to support production and development targets.
  • Coordinate planning activities with Mining Superintendents, Supervisors, Technical Services, Survey, and Client teams. 
  • Monitor operational performance against planned targets and recommend improvements to optimise productivity and contract delivery. 
  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance to underground operations to ensure safe and efficient execution of mining activities.
  • Monitor contractual KPIs, production performance, labour utilisation, equipment productivity, and consumable usage. 
  • Support contract administration through forecasting, reporting, claims, variations, and performance analysis.
  • Coordinate with Survey, Geology, and Technical Services teams to ensure timely delivery of technical information to site operations.
  • Conduct QA/QC activities to verify development quality, drill accuracy, ground support compliance, and adherence to approved mine designs.
  • Review drill and blast performance and contribute to ongoing optimisation initiatives. 
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, operational databases, and reporting systems to support decision-making.
  • Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly operational performance reports.
  • Promote compliance with HSE standards, operational procedures, and engineering governance requirements.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance operational and commercial performance.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an underground hard rock mining engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of underground mining methods, mine planning, drill and blast, and mining operations.
  • Practical underground operational mining experience.
  • Experience developing mine schedules and monitoring operational performance. 
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret operational and technical data.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Experience with Deswik or equivalent mine planning and scheduling software will be advantageous. 
  • Previous contractor mining experience and African mining experience will be advantageous.
  • French language skills would be beneficial.
