Job Description:

Our client, a global mining services company, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Superintendent to lead the safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of underground mobile mining equipment in support of operational and contractual objectives. Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will oversee maintenance planning, asset reliability, team leadership, commercial performance and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with company standards and client requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the maintenance department to deliver safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of underground mobile mining equipment.
  • Develop and execute preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance strategies to maximise equipment availability.
  • Plan and coordinate weekly and monthly maintenance activities with Operations to minimise downtime.
  • Manage maintenance planning, CMMS work orders, maintenance history and asset performance data.
  • Lead equipment reliability initiatives, root cause investigations and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Provide technical leadership during major breakdowns, fault finding and critical maintenance activities.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with HSE, QA/QC, OEM and statutory requirements.
  • Lead, mentor and develop Maintenance Supervisors, Planners, tradespeople and apprentices.
  • Manage workforce planning, labour allocation, subcontractors and maintenance resources.
  • Control maintenance budgets, inventory, consumables and contractor expenditure.
  • Monitor equipment performance, maintenance KPIs and schedule compliance to achieve operational targets.
  • Manage component life cycles, major component replacement programmes and critical spares.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, OEMs, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present maintenance, reliability, safety and cost performance reports.
  • Drive innovation, cost optimisation and engineering improvements to enhance equipment reliability and maintenance performance.

Qualifications, Experience & Competencies

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive discipline. Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or related Engineering (advantageous).
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience maintaining underground mobile mining equipment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a maintenance leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong underground hard rock mining experience with development mining fleets.
  • Experience implementing maintenance management systems, CMMS and ERP platforms.
  • Proven experience managing maintenance budgets, resources and contractors.
  • Previous experience working for a mining contractor (highly advantageous).
  • Previous expatriate or African mining experience (preferred).
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Asset reliability and maintenance planning expertise.
  • Commercial and financial acumen.
  • Continuous improvement and problem-solving capability.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • French language skills (advantageous).
