Job Overview:


The successful candidate will be charged with leading a team of Safety Professionals, Advisors and Technicians to provide safety support and leadership for the Bakken  Asset Team to implement safety programs in the field. The candidate will engage with operations personnel from all aspects (drilling, completions, workover, maintenance, construction, and production), and will work to educate and promote awareness of safety issues applicable to field operations. The Safety Supervisor must be able to effectively interact with operation’s leadership, employees, and contractors to communicate compliance issues, identify solutions and maintain Marathon Oil’s reputation as a Safe, Clean and Responsible operator. 


 


This position will report to the Marathon US Operations Safety Manager in Houston, TX and will be located in the Dickinson, ND  office. 


 


Job Responsibilities:


  • Provide hands-on, visible health and safety leadership and support to Marathon Oil’s Bakken operations.
  • Regularly communicate with managers, superintendents, and supervisors to ensure safe and efficient operations are conducted in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations, as well as provide recommendations for health and safety performance improvements.
  • Lead and further develop a team of Safety Professionals, Advisors and Technicians.
  • Conduct safety leadership engagements with contractor management and workers.
  • Play an active role in the development, implementation, and continual improvement of Marathon Oil’s Responsible Operations Management System (ROMS) including health and safety policies, standards, procedures and tools.
  • Collaborate closely with the safety team in Houston and other Marathon assets to ensure ROMS is implemented consistently and effectively.
  • Review incident reports and make necessary notifications to the Bakken Asset Team and/or regulatory agencies as necessary. Participate in incident investigations and risk assessments.
  • Assist site management with completion and submittal of all required safety reporting to agencies and external parties. Act as liaison between site management and regulatory agency officials.
  • Provide oversight on specialty vendors performing safety tasks on operating sites. Work with the Safety Manager to budget and plan for costs associated with safety compliance and performance.
  • Assess health and safety processes, identify gaps and coach for improvement. Participate in and support health and safety audits.
  • Manage health and safety priorities for and provide development opportunities for an active, diverse team.
  • Travel throughout the Bakken asset as needed. Potential travel to Houston, TX, and other Marathon Oil locations on a periodic basis.


 


Minimum Requirements:


Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety related subject matter required (CSP preferred).


Experience: 5+ years of relevant upstream oil & gas experience (production, maintenance, construction, drilling, completions, and workover experience preferred).


Communication: Excellent oral and written communications, teamwork, planning & organizational skills. 


Computer: Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and safety related data management software.


Travel: Regular travel to the field and occasional overnight travel to Houston, TX or other Marathon assets
