NMDPRA Boss calls for alignment to enhance efficiency across the petroleum industry

Lagos — The Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Engr. Saidu A. Mohammed, has called for stronger alignment of digital technologies, capital investment and policy frameworks to enhance efficiency across Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

Speaking at the Society of Petroleum Engineers, SPE, Nigeria Council’s Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum, OLEF 2026 in Abuja, the NMDPRA Boss noted that Nigeria’s target of 3 million barrels per day of crude oil production must be pursued alongside the 22 billion cubic feet per day ‘Decade of Gas’ production target.

He explained that attaining these targets requires adequate financing, efficient technological systems and robust policy frameworks capable of attracting and sustaining investments in the sector.

He further disclosed that the Authority will soon unveil Project NEXUS, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening regulatory effectiveness, accelerating gas development, and positioning Nigeria as a leading energy hub in Africa.

Engr. Mohammed emphasized that achieving these targets will require increased investment in critical infrastructure, adoption of advanced technologies and sustained collaboration among industry stakeholders.

Speaking at the event were the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo; the Commission Chief Executive of the NUPRC, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan; NNPC GCEO, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari; and other industry leaders.
