Lagos — The Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM, education in Nigeria through strategic collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
This formed the focus of a high-level engagement between the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Prof. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, and the Minister of Education, Dr.Morufu Olatunji Alausa, on the proposed launch and nationwide deployment of the PTDF STEM initiative.
The meeting, held in Abuja and part of the resolutions reached include that a committee was constituted and chaired by the Minister of State for Education, Dr.Suwaiba Said Ahmad, to work out modalities for integrating the PTDF STEM programme with the Ministry’s digital platforms.
The committee is also expected to ensure proper coordination and alignment with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC, for curriculum compliance and effective implementation.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Aliyu emphasized the Fund’s resolve to strengthen human capital development through early STEM education, noting that the initiative is designed to inspire innovation, critical thinking and scientific excellence among Nigerian students.
The PTDF delegation included the General Manager, Education and Training, Mrs.Rabiah Waziri-Adamu; General Manager, Legal and Secretarial Services ,Mr.Tanimu Ahmed and General Manager, Office of the Executive Secretary, Mr.Mohammed Salihu Olowo.
Also present at the meeting were representatives of NERDC, including Mr.Garba Gandu and Mr.Chima Egbujuo.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of PTDF and the Federal Ministry of Education towards driving Nigeria’s technological, scientific and industrial advancement.
