Permian Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. Across New Mexico and Texas, the company holds conventional positions in the Northwest Shelf and Central Basin Platform, and an unconventional position in the Delaware Basin. Permian saw significant growth in 2021 with the acquisition of Concho Resources Inc. in January 2021 and the addition of Shell’s Permian acreage in December 2021. At year-end, the company held approximately 1.5 million net acres in the Permian Basin.

Net production for the Permian in 2022 was 461 MBOED.

Description

ConocoPhillips is starting on a large growth trajectory in the Permian area. We have opportunities for people to grow and make a direct impact as part of an energized, broad work force. The Permian development is mostly focused on new unconventional plays, where development wells are targeting the most prolific and lower cost-of-supply zones in the Delaware Basin.

If you are selected as the Delaware Geoscience Analyst, you will provide support by ensuring the development and maintenance of documents and implementation of procedures for certain critical facilities in the asset.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Independently manage Permian Basin Studio database fidelity and standardization
  • Create high quality maps for industry activity, operational planning, and budget updates in Petrel and ArcGIS
  • Load, format, and transfer data across geologic, reservoir engineering, and data science software platforms
  • Interact with geologic technicians, geoscientists, reservoir engineers, and data scientists to complete specifically assigned projects

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • 3+ years experience with GIS or oilfield related software

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience as a geological technician
  • 3+ years of experience with Geographix, Petrel, and Studio
  • Advanced proficiency with managing mud logs, open and cased hole logs, and directional surveys
  • Advanced proficiency with horizontal planning and drilling operations
  • Advanced proficiency with ArcGIS and Trinity
  • Current employment in the petroleum industry
  • Efficient communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to multi-task, be flexible, as project priorities and scope change
  • Ability to anticipate, plan, and coordinate requests in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Orientation towards continuous process improvement
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
