An established engineering and technical services organisation in Malta is seeking an experienced Manager to lead its marine maintenance and repair division.  This primarily includes the repair, maintenance and service of engines together with our equipment.

 

This is a senior, hands-on position combining workshop leadership, technical oversight, customer management and commercial development. The successful candidate will coordinate technicians, manage maintenance activities and ensure marine machinery and associated equipment are serviced, repaired and commissioned safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

The position would suit an experienced mechanical maintenance professional who is comfortable managing people, resolving technical issues and developing long-term customer relationships.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily activities of the marine servicing and maintenance team.
  • Plan and allocate work according to operational priorities, available resources and customer requirements.
  • Provide practical technical support to technicians when diagnosing faults or completing complex repairs.
  • Monitor the performance and condition of marine machinery, engines and related systems.
  • Identify potential failures at an early stage and implement preventative or corrective maintenance solutions.
  • Review equipment reliability and recommend improvements that reduce downtime and operating costs.
  • Inspect marine machinery and equipment before preparing work scopes, repair instructions and job specifications.
  • Coordinate the repair, overhaul, testing and installation of marine engines, machinery and associated equipment.
  • Undertake or support technical assessments relating to the performance, operation and suitability of marine systems.
  • Take responsibility for final quality checks and the successful commissioning of repaired or newly installed equipment.
  • Lead, support and supervise workshop and marine maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain regular communication with technicians regarding workloads, technical concerns, safety matters and operational priorities.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork and high standards of workmanship across the department.
  • Identify training needs and ensure employees understand current operating procedures, technical requirements and company policies.
  • Encourage the continuous development of technical skills, professional behaviour and individual performance.
  • Manage and continuously improve the department’s maintenance planning and reporting processes.
  • Maintain an effective computerised maintenance management system for work orders, service histories, spare parts and equipment records.
  • Ensure job files, inspection records, technical reports and supporting documentation are completed correctly and retained in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Monitor employee time recording and ensure accurate allocation of working hours to relevant jobs and projects.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for marine customers, providing technical guidance and service support.
  • Coordinate customer requirements, repair schedules and planned service visits.
  • Maintain regular contact with existing clients and develop relationships with prospective customers.
  • Visit customer sites and vessels to assess requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
  • Assist in developing commercial strategies that strengthen the marine division and generate additional business.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce new services, improve customer satisfaction and increase operational efficiency.
  • Ensure customer commitments are managed professionally and delivered within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken safely, responsibly and in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture throughout the marine and workshop operations.

 

Talent will:

  • Possess substantial experience within maintenance primarily of engines or mechanical products
  • Demonstrate previous experience supervising technicians, workshop employees or field-service personnel.
  • Have experience planning maintenance work, managing repairs and coordinating equipment commissioning.
  • Have the ability interpret technical documentation, manufacturer specifications and service procedures.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Have a strong understanding of workplace health and safety, environmental responsibilities and quality-control requirements.
  • Ideally speak Maltese
  • Possess a driving license
