Principal Accountabilities
Purpose:
The Pipeline Capacity Engineer is responsible for analyzing, modeling, optimizing, and forecasting the performance of pipeline systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of oil, gas, water, or multiphase fluids.
He is to develop and maintain hydraulic and network simulation models, evaluate pipeline capacity, identify bottlenecks, support operational decision-making, and provide technical assurance for pipeline expansion, debottlenecking, and optimization projects.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Pipeline Simulation and Modelling
• Develop, calibrate, and maintain steady-state and transient hydraulic simulation models.
• Perform pipeline capacity studies and flow assurance analyses.
• Simulate operating scenarios, including startup, shutdown, and emergency conditions.
• Analyze pressure, flow rate, temperature, and inventory profiles across pipeline networks.
• Validate simulation models using operational data.
2. Capacity Assessment and Planning
• Determine maximum throughput capacity of existing pipelines and facilities.
• Conduct debottlenecking studies to identify capacity constraints.
• Evaluate the impact of production growth and future demand on pipeline systems.
• Support pipeline expansion and network optimization projects.
• Prepare capacity forecasts and infrastructure utilization reports.
3. Flow Assurance Studies
• Assess risks related to:
• Wax deposition
• Slugging
• Corrosion
• Erosion
• Liquid accumulation
• Recommend mitigation measures and operating envelopes.
• Support chemical injection strategy optimization.
4. Operational Support
• Provide engineering support to operations and maintenance teams.
• Investigate operational issues affecting flow performance.
• Monitor pipeline efficiency and recommend improvements.
• Support pigging strategy optimization and line-pack management.
• Conduct what-if analyses for operational decision-making.
5. Technical Assurance and Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and company technical practices.
• Perform pressure surge and transient analysis.
• Evaluate pipeline integrity implications arising from hydraulic conditions.
• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and risk assessment studies.
• Provide technical reviews for pipeline and facility modifications.
6. Data Analysis and Performance Monitoring
• Analyze SCADA and field data to monitor system performance.
• Develop dashboards and KPIs for pipeline utilization and efficiency.
• Identify trends and opportunities for asset optimization.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations for management.
7. Project Support
• Support concept, FEED, and detailed engineering studies.
• Review hydraulic design calculations and contractor deliverables.
• Provide input into pipeline sizing and equipment selection.
• Support commissioning and performance testing activities.

Work Cycle:
• This role is primarily based in the office with occasional visits to project sites as required.
• May require working outside of normal business hours to meet project deadlines.
• Must be willing to adhere to all safety protocols and work in an outdoor industrial environment for site visits.
• Personnel shall manage own absences with his/her contractor for suitable qualified covers, as approved by Client.
