Description

ConocoPhillips and JERA Americas are evaluating the development of a low-carbon ammonia production facility along the US Gulf Coast, which would accelerate production and supply of low-carbon fuel to markets in the US, Europe, Japan, and greater Asia. The proposed ammonia production facility would produce hydrogen and convert it into clean ammonia for transport to domestic and international markets with a target of achieving first commercial deliveries by the end of the decade.

The Operations Manager is a key member of the project development leadership team and has overall accountability for developing a fit for purpose operating philosophy (model) to be implemented for the future asset; and ensuring the facility has been appropriately specified during the development phase to support cost efficient operations and reliable production. The position will also be responsible for organizational set-up and scope of execution as the project progresses through the FEL gates, as well as providing essential input to budget and schedule.

This position is expected to ensure all operational related, HSE, schedule, quality and budget targets are achieved. This position will be accountable for the operations of the facilities post start-up and will be accountable for the production phase of the asset.

This position is open to Expatriate Assignments and U.S. Payroll Transfers.

Job Description

Responsibilities may include:

  • Lead, organize and undertake work required to define the operating model, inclusive of high-level philosophies and procedures, for the hydrogen/ammonia plant development in a manner that ensures project objectives and goals are met, and work is completed according to project schedule
  • Build, lead and manage Operations organization who will report directly to the Operations Manager and be responsible for operating the asset in the production phase
  • Responsible for compliance with ConocoPhillips’ Operation Assurance process for the project
  • Responsible for following the Operation Excellence standards and championing new technologies adoption
  • Provide strong, visible safety leadership as part of working with projects organization throughout the project development phases
  • Responsible for ensuring fit for purpose operational input is provided to Functional and Project Specifications, Design Basis, and Scope of Work, during the development phases
  • Ensure safe operations of the hydrogen/ammonia facility, through strong personal safety leadership and diligent implementation of HSE Management System
  • Ensure that the facilities will operate as a whole, total system from feedstock supply to product shipment
  • Ensure that the Project HSE&Q policies and procedures are adhered to by conducting audits and ensuring group focus in these areas
  • Support the ESG objectives of the project team
  • Set and achieve superior production delivery by optimizing production capacity, equipment reliability and planned shutdown activities
  • Responsible for developing a high-performing multidiscipline team, motivated for the task. Be an active and visible role model, and promote motivation, good communication and a positive work environment
  • Responsible for generating operations and maintenance training plan
  • Actively use ConocoPhillips’ knowledge sharing tools, apply standard processes, synergies and lessons learned from other projects and operations
  • Ability to collaborate and actively engage with corporate, partners and potential 3rd party Operators Operations Leadership Team (OLT) to make the best technical decisions for the benefit of the project/asset
  • Expected to work closely with the Global Projects and Low Carbon Technology teams

Basic/Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, other related technical field, or foreign equivalent
  • 15+ years of experience in operations
  • 5+ years of operations management experience in hydrogen and ammonia production operations
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis

Preferred:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • 5+ years of marine/terminal operations experience
  • 3+ years of experience managing organization’s transition into an Operating asset
  • Ability to conceptualize development scenarios and identify critical issues from an operations perspective
  • Able to work effectively at higher/strategic level and more detailed level as appropriate
  • High safety, environmental and ethical standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage and work with a diverse multi-national and multi-cultural workforce
  • Effective leadership, influence management, strategic, execution and teamwork skills
