Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.2 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2022. The company produced an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest legacy conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

Description

The IT Business Analyst position sits within the Alaska Technical Apps & Data team. This team provides both business functional and technical application, workflow and data support for AK BU (Alaska Business Unit) GGRE (Geology, Geophysics, and Reservoir Engineering) & Wells stakeholders. This role will also serve as the IT liaison for the GGRE, Wells & Well Planning Capability teams.

The IT Business Analyst is accountable for understanding and translating business strategies, processes, workflows, and systems into applicable functional/ technical requirements. This role collaborates closely with key business leaders, stakeholders, technical teams, and vendors to ensure all stakeholders’ needs are being met. The role will represent the Alaska BU in the strategic planning of the GGRE and Wells Capability roadmaps, and will align with Capability Owners on the prioritization and execution of quarterly objectives, and handle operational IT needs and issue resolution.

The successful candidate is self-motivated, with a strong customer focus and excellent communication skills. The candidate should have a working IT knowledge of best practices to deliver and guide the demands of both vended and in-house developed operational solutions throughout all phases of a software/solution development project.

Job Description

Responsibilities may include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with the Geoscience, Reservoir Engineering, Wells stakeholders and IT peers in the AK BU, global functions and Capability teams
  • Collaborating with business leaders and stakeholders in scoping, designing, and delivering business driven requests including: facilitating discussions, gather business requirements, translating requirements, framing the business case, value drivers, solution review/comparison, solution recommendation/selection, and leading/managing solution implementation projects of varying scale and complexity
  • Translating business needs/strategies into solution designs and deliverables including creation of features and user stories
  • Leading efforts and serving as a Scrum Master
  • Developing a deep understanding of business acumen, end-to-end processes, workflows, systems, and data
  • Analyzing, prioritizing, troubleshooting, and resolving application and data issues
  • Researching 3rd party vended solutions and conducting research and analysis based on demands
  • Leading migration of internally hosted applications and processes to cloud-based SaaS/PaaS solutions
  • Collaborating with the business leaders, stakeholders and IT to develop and maintain capability, application and digital strategy roadmaps by staying aware of industry trends, vendor roadmaps and current and future business requirements
  • Leading vendor relationships and coordinating with vendors on contract renewals, delivery of fixes, enhancement requests, upgrades, and new system implementations
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, standardize and enhance our current processes and data management
  • Facilitating communication across disciplines and functions to ensure IT solutions are executed in line with the Capability priorities
  • Serve as a change agent leader, providing guidance for partner functions to successfully transition to the new operating model within the BU.
  • Customer relationship management and communicating with the business customers around IT services, costs and needs
  • Maintaining an attitude of diversity and inclusion to ensure that all perspectives are considered in the execution of work

Qualifications

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Admin/Mgmt., Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related discipline or foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in an Information Technology technical role
  • 3+ years of experience with Business Analysis methodologies including: identifying and capturing business requirements, framing the business case, solution selection, managing solution implementation
  • 3+ years of experience leading/managing large scale projects
  • Intermediate proficiency with Agile/SCRUM principles, tools (JIRA, ADO), user story creation estimation and planning
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, and Teams

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience implementing vended software applications
  • 3+ years of experience in the Oil & Gas Industry
  • 3+ years experience with key applications: G&G: Petrel-Studio, DELFI, Techlog, ESRI, Petrosys, RE: Schlumberger RE Tool Suite, CMG, Harmony Enterprise, ValNav, Wells: Landmark EDT, WellView, Asset & Well Planning: Aucerna Execute & Portfolio, Generwell, DSO, Enersight
  • 3+ years experience with business acumen, processes, and data supporting: G&G:Seismic Interpretation, Exploration vs Development, Geo-Steering, Petrophysics, RE: Production & Forecasting, Reservoir Simulation, Reservoir Performance Analysis, Wells: Well Design & Engineering, Drilling, Completions, Real-Time Sensor Data, Asset & Well Planning: LRP, AFE, OBO, Permitting, Regulatory
  • 3+ years experience implementing solutions on cloud SaaS and PaaS; basic knowledge of MS Azure or AWS
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of Upstream Oil & Gas and the full Well Lifecycle process from Exploration through Well Design, Delivery and Abandonment
  • Demonstrated ability to do business process mapping
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, plan and carry out responsibilities with minimal direction and deliver results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by courageously dealing with important problems and holding others accountable
  • Influences business decisions which lead to delivery of value-add solutions that are in alignment with business capability requirements and IT standards
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities to ensure deliverables are met on time
