Lower 48 Overview

The Lower 48 represents the largest ConocoPhillips business segment today based on production, with high-quality positions in the U.S. unconventionals. These low cost of supply and low GHG-intensity assets have significant upside potential.

The company’s large Lower 48 position of 10.3 million net acres, including unconventional holdings of approximately 1.7 million net acres, represents scalable inventory with low cost of supply and low GHG emissions intensity with the potential to generate significant returns over many years of future development. Current major focus areas for the Lower 48 include the Delaware and Midland Basins, part of the world-class Permian Basin, as well as the Eagle Ford and Bakken.

In 2022, net crude oil production was 534 MBOED.

Description

If you are selected as the Business Development Reservoir Engineer, you will provide reservoir engineering support for trades, acquisitions, and divestitures for the L48 Business Development Team. You will work with Geologists and Land Negotiators on the Business Development Team as well as Asset Teams and Finance Teams across the Business Units to formulate technical and economic views on given mandates and effectively communicate recommendations to management. You must be able to multitask and work multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Provide engineering and economic analysis to support L48 portfolio optimization, with a focus on the Permian
  • Value acreage positions for potential trades, acquisitions, and divestitures across the L48, focusing on the Midland and Delaware Basins
  • Gather relevant data for populating virtual datarooms for divestitures and act as lead engineering contact during divestiture process
  • Lead engineering efforts on marketed and non-marketed acquisition opportunities
  • Stay current with internal and external drilling and completion activity across the Permian Basin
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations explaining the opportunity, identifying the value drivers, and effectively communicating it to senior management
  • Integrate and analyze third party data (virtual data rooms, trade data, etc) as well as internal and competitor data to reduce uncertainties and influence evaluations
  • Collaborate with integrated teams to ensure accurate evaluations (drilling, completions, facilities, production, regulatory, land, finance, gas and crude marketing) as well as develop and share standard methodologies
  • Take ownership and facilitate integrated planning to ensure timely and successful execution on projects
  • Prepare production reports/forecasts, EUR determination, reserves analysis with corporate engineering and third-party reservoir auditors
  • Support program-wide technical studies and/or initiatives

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, or foreign equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry
  • 7+ years of experience in petroleum engineering
  • 3+ years of direct A&D engineering experience

Preferred:

  • 7+ years of direct experience as a Reservoir Petroleum Engineer
  • Experience in the following: Well performance analysis (IPR/TPR), volumetrics, decline/rate-time analysis, economics, PVT characterization, decision & risk analysis, and uncertainty characterization of forecasts, reserves and resources
  • Reserves estimation according to SEC rules
  • Extensive experience with US unconventional reservoirs, preferably in the Permian Basin
  • Proficient in Aries, Val Nav, Access, Excel, OFM (Oil Field Manager), Spotfire, or similar evaluation and economic softwares
  • Exposure to well completions, production operations and formation evaluation
  • Experience in building and delivering upper management style presentations
  • Self-driven and possess strong personal and professional standards
