Description

The Tax Counsel or Tax Consultant (the “Tax Advisor”) will have responsibility for tax research and planning projects on U.S. outbound international tax issues and U.S. federal domestic tax issues. The Tax Advisor will have significant interface with tax management, tax compliance groups, and other tax planners.

Job Description

Your Responsibilities may include:

  • Tax research on U.S. outbound international tax issues and U.S. federal domestic tax issues
  • Provide support to U.S. international tax compliance group, including researching reporting requirements and review
  • Tax research and planning for restructurings and other cross border and corporate matters
  • Develop strong working relationships with other tax planners; provide tax technical support as needed

Estimated Breakdown of the position responsibilities:

  • 70% U.S. Outbound International Taxes
  • 30% U.S. Federal Domestic Taxes

Accomplishments expected to be achieved within the first year:

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of U.S. tax attributes of ConocoPhillips
  • Become established in partnering with other planners and tax compliance groups to provide tax technical support
  • Develop trust by Tax Management to use proper judgment to provide updates and raise issues

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Master’s degree or higher or foreign equivalent in Taxation or Accounting with focus on Taxation, related, and/or Juris Doctorate
  • 7+ years of combined U.S. outbound international and U.S. federal domestic tax experience
  • 5+ years of applicable tax experience in Fortune 500 multi-national, national accounting or law firm

Preferred:

  • Master of Laws in Taxation, Certified Public Accountant, or foreign equivalent
  • Strong college and law school record
  • Accounting background
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare high quality well written tax memos; ability to communicate optimally with senior management team
  • Excellent tax research and tax analytical skills
  • Strong ethical standards and business judgment
  • Strong desire to develop and advance within the Tax Department
  • Team player able to work independently, exercise initiative, interface at high levels and communicate optimally
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on dedications by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
